Behavior
Unlike their rivals, the Allosaurus, who have a violent love language, Daspletosaurus are generally more affectionate towards one another. Spending much of their time reaffirming their connection not only with their chosen mate but also each other. Daspletosaurus are highly territorial and have been known to chase off or even kill other carnivores within their domain. Most are tolerant of their own kind, content to simply chase them away when they get too close but some clashes for land do lead to death; and an easy meal is an easy meal. However, Daspletosaurus almost always go for the kill when fighting an Allosaurus. Their rivalry is legendary.
Recommended behaviors
╸Daspletosaurus are very nurturing and also get vocal when showing affection towards their packmates.
╸Prefers to hunt in dense forests and low visibility areas where ambushing is possible.
╸Daspletosaurus will not tolerate Allosaurus in the same area.
╸Daspletosaurus are extremely protective of their offspring and will go the extra length to ensure their pack members do not get injured or die.
╸When resting after a hunt or during the night, these animals tend to keep each other very close to ensure visibility of the whole pack at all times.
Mating
A Daspletosaurus prefers a show of strength, brutality, skill, persistence, and patience to romance a mate. A Daspletosaurus courtship is a long process that can take weeks if not months before the two bond, as Daspletosaurus mate for life and are far more particular about who they choose to mate. Males follow the female around, persistent in their intentions, giving her chunks of meat to show he is a provider, and chasing off any other male that gets too close. He will constantly coo and rumble at her, displaying his eagerness. Once she accepts him by responding to his calls, the two will go off on their own for a while. During this time the two mated pairs will call to one another, displaying a level of affection and intimacy that is not often seen in other creatures. After this, the pair remain bonded for life.
Nesting & offspring
Once a female is ready to produce eggs both the male and female will find a suitable territory. There they will take turns tending to their clutch and hunting. They will stay as a pair until their offspring is old enough to keep up and meet the pack. They typically have one to three eggs in a clutch, and the parents put all their time and energy into raising those babies. The offspring will usually split into their own pack consisting of siblings once subadult. Young Daspletosaurus are much more vocal than their elders due to lack of experience, they can also be seen tussling about instead of paying attention during a hunting lesson.
